A new study has been published by two reputable Harvard professors on the matter of problem gambling in online casinos. The two, Howard J. Shaffer and Ryan Martin concluded in this study that the problems provoked by gambling have decreased in the last years and online casinos are not culpable for most of these problems. The two have further discussed the issue in an interview for the Chicago Tribune, detailing their findings. It appears that even if gambling overall has greatly increased over the last 35 years, problem gambling has decreased form 0,7% to 0,6%. It appears that the great majority of players are not having any problems when playing and are enjoying this activity without troubles. People are also tending to reduce their time spent at online casinos after some time.

This is totally opposed to what some anti online gambling voices say that this activity is socially negative. The study also revealed that in the present, in the United States, only 0,6% of online gamblers have problems with addiction. Furthermore, three quarters of these problem players also had other addiction problems before experiencing online casino gambling. This study has been developed both to give an objective view of the online casino gambling world and to find ways to help those who face problem gambling. There are numerous people who try to make online gambling a bad thing in its whole, most of them due to political reasons and interests. But the truth is that as long as people need gambling for entertainment purposes, they should be able to play without barriers.

This is not the only study in the world showing these facts. Other scientists and researchers have reached the same conclusions. It is true that some people go that extra step and transform the pleasure into an addiction, spending everything they have without any control and ruin their lives. But these are isolated cases and are due mostly to psychological problems with those individuals and not to online gambling. The conclusion would be that if you are interested in online casinos and you know you can keep your emotions in control, than you should be able to start playing. But if you know that you have had problems with addiction and you cannot keep your spending at a minimum, than it would be wise to stay away from gambling online.
